Throughout this course we have explored many exercises that are effective in enhancing our health through mental fitness.
My two favorite exercises are the loving-kindness and visualization practices. The loving-kindness practice has allowed me to become more aware of other people's needs over my own. It has helped me become more self-less and more aware of other's hardships. It has helped me be more compassionate and caring no matter how someone treats me. Through the loving-kindness practice I am becoming more open and working on treating people with respect, fairness, honesty, patience, and acceptance. We get back what we give.
The visualization practice brings me comfort and relaxation and allows me to become more aware of what I can be... my own healer. Visualization allows me to go to any place or any feeling I chose. I have used visualization for goals and motivation, hope and joy, and relaxation. By visualizing health, happiness, and wholeness I feel invigorated and alive and it allows me to live my life in the moment instead of just going throught the motions.
I have definitely incorporated these two practices into my life on a daily basis and with practice and time I hope they both bring me greater integral health and flourishing.
Hi Sara,
ReplyDeleteYou expressed yourself very well! :) I agree with your choices as well. The Loving-kindness exercise is so important through days filled with disruptions, setbacks, disappointments, duties, obligations (real or imagined, daily routines, traffic..etc... We can get pretty tied up into what "we" need and want while forgetting others. Marketing campaigns work hard to support us in that self-centered approach too!
I have felt a difference in what that exercise has done to my focus throughout the day and how better I listen to my clients expression of the things happening in their lives.
Best wishes,
Sara, I enjoyed all the practices we have experienced in this course. I also had my favorites, found a few to be difficult but over all I can see and understand how these practices work to help us gain human flourishing. I will try each day to implement them in my life as well so I can have happines, wholeness and health.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great outlook Sara. I wish that I could be more like you. Wait, I know that I can if I practice these exercises. I have discovered that it is really hard to worry about others feelings when you feel so badly yourself. Maybe if I would learn to focus on helping others with their lives then I would feel better about myself. I should have thought about that a few minutes ago when I upset my mom because she thinks I should send my grandfather a birthday card, and I told her if I had time I would. I guess I came across that his birthday wasn't important to me, and that is not true. I apparently need a lot of work on that thinking before you speak so I can choose my words more carefully.
ReplyDeleteYour post was very pleasant and to the point. I enjoyed the loving-kindness exercises also. I think that it helped me tap into an area that I had forgotten about. Making a conscious effort to extend love, forgiveness and compassion in ALl of my dealings is a beautiful step for me at this stage of my life. I eases the stress and adds to making the world a better pleace.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing Sara!
